Important Hand Signals for Crane Operation

A signaler may be required by law if the crane operator’s view of the intended path of travel is obstructed.

We let Crainco Clark take you through some of the important hand signals we use below.

Boom Down

Boom Down Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

In order to lower the boom the signal person will extend an arm horizontally and signal thumbs down with a closed fist.

Boom Up

Boom Up Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

In order to raise the boom the signal person will extend an arm horizontally and signal thumbs up with a closed fist.

Stop

Stop Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

To stop the load up, the signal person will extend their right arm vertically and make a closed fist.

Load Up

Load Up Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

In order to lift the load up, the signal person will extend their arm vertically towards the ceiling/sky, point with their index finger and make small circles with their hand and index finger.

Load Down

Load Down Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

In order to place the load down, the signal person will extend their arm towards the ground/floor, point down with their index finger and make small circles with their hand and index finger.

Rotate Right

Rotate Right Crane Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

To rotate the load right, the signal person will extend their right arm out horizontally, keeping their palm facing forward.

Rotate Left

Rotate Left Crane Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

To rotate the load left, the signal person will extend their left arm out horizontally, keeping their palm facing forward.

Extend Boom

Extend Boom Crane Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

To signal to extend the boom, the signal person will place both hands at his/her waist, level with closed fists and thumbs pointed outward.

Retract Boom

Retract Boom Crane Hand Signal - Crainco Clark

To signal to retract the boom, the signal person will place both hands at his/her waist, level with closed fists and thumbs pointed inward.
